The ketogenic diet eliminates all plant-based foods and allows only meat, fish, eggs, and low-lactose dairy.

Organ meats, oily and white fish, hard cheese, butter, and cream are allowed. Advocates recommend fattier meat to meet daily energy needs.

Diet excludes non-animal foods. The included high-protein, low-carb foods are satiating. This causes many followers to eat fewer meals, perhaps two per day.  

Over 2,000 adults followed the diet for 14 months and reported few side effects, health benefits, and high satisfaction.

Most people believe a healthy, balanced diet should include protein, fat, and carbohydrates, but the carnivore diet does not.
