TORTA DELLA NONNA RECIPE

Torta della Nonna, which translates to "grandmother's cake" in Italian, is a traditional Italian dessert made with Italian pastry cream. This creamy tart is a delicious treat that's perfect for any occasion!

Ingredient

– 2 cups all-purpose flour – 1/2 cup granulated sugar – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cube – 1 large egg – 1 large egg yolk – Zest of 1 lemon – 1 teaspoon baking powder – A pinch of salt For the filling: – 2 cups whole milk – 4 large egg yolk – 1/2 cup granulated sugar – 1/3 cup all-purpose flour – Zest of 1 lemon – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – A pinch of salt For the topping: – 1/2 cup pine nut – Confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round tart pan.

To make the pastry, in a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, lemon zest, baking powder, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and rub them into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add the egg and egg yolk to the mixture and mix until it comes together into a dough. If the dough seems too dry, you can add a tablespoon of cold water. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Cover with another layer of pastry, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with pine nuts.

Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Cool, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
