Easy Apple Strudel With Flaky Phyllo Crust Recipe

You'll enjoy this quick apple strudel with homemade apple filling and phyllo dough for a flaky crust. Ideal dessert for a small group.

– 2 teaspoon ghee clarified butter – 2 tablespoon Private Reserve Greek extra virgin olive oil, more if needed later – 3 apples, peeled, cored, thinly sliced – ¼ cup brown sugar – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – ¼ teaspoon nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom – 4 tablespoon orange juice – ½ cup chopped walnuts – ⅓ cup raisins – 10 thawed phyllo dough sheets – Confectioner's sugar for garnish optional

Preheat oven to 375 F.Make filling. Heat ghee and olive oil in a big skillet. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and orange juice.

Cook the apples over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes to release juice. Mix in walnuts and raisins. Remove from heat and rest.

Prepare a big parchment-lined sheet pan. Combine the apple filling liquids with a little extra virgin olive oil in a small dish to brush over phyllo sheets.

Lay 10–12 sheets of phyllo flat on a clean surface. Cover with a clean cloth to prevent drying, although this should be a rapid procedure.

Place one phyllo sheet in the pan. Brush with your apple filling juice-olive oil combination. Put some brown sugar on top. Continue with the remaining phyllo sheets.

Position the sheet pan horizontally with one long edge of phyllo facing you. Pour the apple filling toward the center, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold phyllo short edges to cover 2 inches of apple mixture on either end.

Brush olive oil on ends. Fold the phyllo over the apple filling and jellyroll from the long side closest to you. Keep the bottom seam.Apply extra-virgin olive oil to strudel. Bake phyllo on the middle rack for 35 minutes until golden brown.

Cool on the sheet pan after baking. Sprinkle confectioner's sugar and any leftover walnuts or raisins on apple strudel to garnish. Slice and serve.
